Glossary #54 – Alpha version

Alpha version: is a pilot version of a programme or product which is often used to do a test-run of how the item may work/run in terms of its effectiveness and usability.

Example: The  eLearning team might create an Alpha version of a Learnzone resource in order to show the academic tutors how the resource might look, which also gives time for the content to be edited, before it is published as a final version.
