The first of our Special Interest Groups (SIGs) was held on 19th February between 12:30-1:30. The topic that was being discussed was Flipped Learning. Thank you for all those who attended the first SIG, I hope that you found it interesting and useful – I know I did!
It was really good to see staff members from a variety of teams, across both HE and FE provisions. The SIG went well, with people openly sharing and discussing their experiences of using Flipped Learning.
Some of the points covered in the session include;
- How important it was to keep flipped learning tasks short and to the point
- How flipped learning makes it easier to differentiate within sessions
- Selling it to the students – making them see the value of the task set for them and how that is going to help with their course
- Issues that arise with flipped learning, such as how to get the students to do the tasks before the lesson and what to do with students who do not do the task.
Some of the technologies that were mentioned were iSpring and Ted ED
If you are interested in sharing your good practice the next Flipped Learning SIG session is planned for the 18th March between 3pm-4pm. If you are interested in attending the next SIG, you can book onto it through the staff development booking system.
