Empowering students for a digital future
On Tuesday, 10th February 2026, educators, organisations, and young people across the UK and beyond will come together to mark Safer Internet Day (SID), a global event dedicated to promoting safer, more responsible, and more positive use of digital technology.
Safer Internet Day is an opportunity to spark meaningful conversations, promote critical thinking, and strengthen the digital skills and resilience of our diverse student community.
Why Safer Internet Day matters
Safer Internet Day gives us time to:
- Strengthen students’ digital literacy and critical thinking.
- Support them in recognising credible information online.
- Build their awareness of privacy, data protection, and ethical AI use.
- Promote a culture of kindness, respect, inclusion, and online well‑being.
This year’s theme, “Smart tech, safe choices – Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI”, focuses on helping students navigate an increasingly AI‑driven digital environment with confidence, awareness, and ethical understanding.
Many students already use AI tools daily for coursework, creativity, communication, and even personal decision‑making, meaning it is essential that they understand how to use these tools safely and responsibly.
Get up to speed with AI by completing our Artificial Intelligence Essentials course.

We have a range of relevant modules available within the PPD (Personal and Professional Development) section on LearnZone. They’re ideal for you to promote to your students in support of Safer Internet Day.

A shared responsibility
Safer Internet Day reminds us that online safety is for everyone, with us all having a role to play. Working together allows us to create digital spaces that are safe, empowering, and supportive, as technology continues to evolve.
