{"id":2618,"date":"2013-12-09T14:58:01","date_gmt":"2013-12-09T14:58:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.loucoll.ac.uk\/learningtechnology\/?p=2618"},"modified":"2013-12-09T14:58:01","modified_gmt":"2013-12-09T14:58:01","slug":"teenagers-own-6-digital-devices-says-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.loucoll.ac.uk\/learningtechnology\/2013\/12\/09\/teenagers-own-6-digital-devices-says-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Teenagers own 6 digital devices says research"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>A survey by IT firm Logicalis says that teenagers now own 6 digital devices and some 28% of the 1,004 13- to 17-year-olds questioned feel ICT is key to their future career.<\/h4>\n<p>The research,\u00a0was originally designed to establish the &#8220;digital footprint&#8221; of teenagers today, its recently published suggests that young people do understand the value of a digital future.<br \/>\nThe results show that three-quarters of the young people surveyed expect the country to update its devices and technology to keep up with\u00a0the habits of the digital generation.\u00a0Almost a third\u00a0of the 1,004 13- to 17-year-olds who answered the survey felt that\u00a0ICT would play a key part in their education and<br \/>\nfuture career, so much so that ICT and the sciences came out in the top four most important subjects.<\/p>\n<h4>The top 6 digital devices owned by young people:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Smartphone<\/li>\n<li>Television<\/li>\n<li>Laptop<\/li>\n<li>Games console<\/li>\n<li>MP3\/iPod<\/li>\n<li>Digital camera<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>From these results it is apparent that young people are actively engaged, savvy\u00a0and &#8216;connected&#8217; with a variety of devices, the firm say about the research that &#8220;nurturing this generation&#8217;s digital capabilities could bring significant economic value to UK\u00a0companies and increase the UK&#8217;s competitiveness in<br \/>\nthe international market.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Its not just that young people are highly connected to a variety of devices-the survey also\u00a0suggests that two-thirds are creating and actively sharing their own videos and content, and apps including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter were the top apps being downloaded and used by young people.
