{"id":11326,"date":"2026-02-09T15:07:55","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T15:07:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.loucoll.ac.uk\/learningtechnology\/?p=11326"},"modified":"2026-02-09T16:11:59","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T16:11:59","slug":"safer-internet-day-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.loucoll.ac.uk\/learningtechnology\/2026\/02\/09\/safer-internet-day-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Safer Internet Day 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"promotingsaferinternetday2026infeempoweringlearnersforadigitalfuture\"><strong>Empowering students for a digital future<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>On <strong>Tuesday, 10th February 2026<\/strong>, educators, organisations, and young people across the UK and beyond will come together to mark <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/saferinternet.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Safer Internet Day (SID)<\/a>, <\/strong>a global event dedicated to promoting safer, more responsible, and more positive use of digital technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Safer Internet Day is an opportunity to spark meaningful conversations, promote critical thinking, and strengthen the digital skills and resilience of our diverse student community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"whysaferinternetdaymattersinfe\"><strong>Why Safer Internet Day matters<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Safer Internet Day gives us time to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:0.5%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:99.5%\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strengthen students\u2019 <strong>digital literacy<\/strong> and <strong>critical thinking<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support them in recognising credible information online.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Build their awareness of <strong>privacy<\/strong>, <strong>data protection<\/strong>, and <strong>ethical AI use<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote a culture of <strong>kindness<\/strong>,<strong> respect<\/strong>,<strong> inclusion<\/strong>, and<strong> online well\u2011being<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This year\u2019s theme, <strong>\u201cSmart tech, safe choices \u2013 Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI\u201d<\/strong>,  focuses on helping students navigate an increasingly AI\u2011driven digital environment with confidence, awareness, and ethical understanding.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many students already use AI tools daily for coursework, creativity, communication, and even personal decision\u2011making, meaning it is essential that they understand how to use these tools safely and responsibly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Get up to speed with AI by completing our <a href=\"https:\/\/staffzone.loucoll.ac.uk\/course\/view.php?id=718\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Artificial Intelligence Essentials course<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"whatthethememeansforfethisyear\"><strong>Resources to promote with your students<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>We have a range of relevant modules available within the PPD (<a href=\"https:\/\/learnzone.loucoll.ac.uk\/course\/index.php?categoryid=499\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Personal and Professional Development)<\/a> section on LearnZone. They\u2019re ideal for you to promote to your students in support of Safer Internet Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:0.5%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:99.5%\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/learnzone.loucoll.ac.uk\/course\/view.php?id=8919\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Being Safe Online<\/a> &#8211; including sessions on Online identity, Storing and managing online data, Sharing your online data, and Recognising online dangers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/learnzone.loucoll.ac.uk\/course\/view.php?id=2277\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Online Wellbeing<\/a> &#8211; including sessions on Health and Technology, Social Media, Cyberbullying, Grooming, Online Extremism, and Online Scams.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/learnzone.loucoll.ac.uk\/course\/view.php?id=6920\">An Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI)<\/a> &#8211; including how to check for accuracy and bias, and whether you should use AI, covering the ethics of using it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"asharedresponsibility\"><strong>A shared responsibility<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Safer Internet Day reminds us that <strong>online safety is for everyone<\/strong>, with us all having a role to play.
