Role Models: DR. GREG SAMMONS


Dr Greg Sammons, a 34-year-old Sports Science graduate from Solihull, is a true inspiration for anyone wanting to pursue a sports career. After retiring from professional Rugby union, Greg had a passion for helping athletes and for high performance. This led him to explore Sports Science and athletic performance, eventually earning a BSc in Sports Science from Loughborough College.

Despite being dyslexic, Greg was determined to become the first person in his family to earn a degree. He chose Loughborough College because it was flexible around his working schedule and being a mature learner the opportunity to be supported in a smaller class environment was a big positive. The College provided him with the foundation and enthusiasm for research which ultimately lead him to conduct his Ph.D. in Sports Medicine.

After earning his degree, Greg went on to work for Leicester Tigers, England, Championship Rugby Clubs and global sports, helping people improve their performance. His Ph.D. and experience working across professional Rugby and global sports are his personal career highlights and something he is extremely proud of.

Greg’s experience at Loughborough College was brilliant and he still has some amazing friends from his time there. He found the experience very enjoyable and the tutors at the College helped him believe in himself and succeed.
