As a former player for Leicester City’s Academy, Theo Brown was well on his way to a career in professional football. However, a twist of fate led him to pursue a degree in Sports Management at Loughborough College, where he discovered a passion for helping vulnerable individuals in his community through his business, René House.
Theo’s journey to Loughborough College was a natural one, as he had previously studied there as part of his scholarship with Leicester City. He was drawn to the college’s strong links with the university and its reputation for sporting excellence, which allowed him to continue playing football at a high level while expanding his education.
“Joined as a footballer, left as an entrepreneur”
While studying at Loughborough College, Theo learned valuable lessons about himself, including his newfound interest in fields unrelated to sports. He was able to explore new opportunities, join clubs and societies, and even volunteer for various events, all of which helped him find a new direction in life.
Despite his initial plans of becoming a sports coach or teacher, Theo learned that there were many other roles within the industry that were important. He also discovered a world outside of sports, which allowed him to broaden his perspective and consider new ideas.
After graduating, Theo started working full-time in a banking role before eventually co-founding René House, a social housing company that provides support and housing for homeless adults and families in Nottingham. He is proud of the impact that René House has had on his life and the lives of others in his community.
Theo’s tutors at Loughborough College played a significant role in his success, offering advice and support whenever needed. He cites the Business Enterprise module as particularly helpful, as it gave him the confidence to start a complex business in an unfamiliar field.
Looking to the future, Theo aspires to continue growing René House, while also using his skills and experience to return to the world of sports. He believes that innovative solutions can be found by fusing ideas from different fields, and he hopes to be a part of that.
If you are considering studying at Loughborough College, Theo encourages you to go for it. The college provides opportunities and benefits that may not be found elsewhere, and the tutors are dedicated to helping students succeed. Whether you are looking to get into sports or simply looking to expand your horizons, Loughborough College is the place to be.
