COLLEGE TO FOLLOW UP RECORD-BREAKING HEALTH FAIR

    December 12th, 2012

ORGANISER Nicola Wells today revealed Loughborough College will be holding follow-up events in 2013 following yesterday’s record-breaking third annual Health and Wellbeing Fair.

The event held in the Radmoor Sports Hall attracted 282 students and 25 staff – a new high – and feedback from two stalls that attracted a particularly high level of interest has prompted the College to take further action.

“It was great to see so many people attending and the response we have already had from people taking part has been very positive,” she said. “Macmillan Cancer Support alone saw more than 240 people and spoke to more than 30 who raised specific issues.  We are now looking into the possibility of holding cancer awareness teaching for students next year.

“Also, the NHS stop smoking service signed up a good number of students on the day, so we will be holding a drop-in during the new term. Many important health-related issues were publicised and we’d like to thank everyone who gave up their valuable time to come along including the Our Space appeal, which is the College’s chosen charity for 2012-13.

“The timing of the event was changed this year to the heart of the Christmas party season as there was also important guidance on alcohol awareness.

“Nobody wants to take away the enjoyment of this time of year but we want students to do so without neglecting the safety of both themselves and others.”

SKY’S THE LIMIT FOR COLLEGE FRESHERS

    September 26th, 2012

FROM Harry Potter and Cartoons and Cereal to Skydiving and Belly Dance – the door is open for Loughborough College students to get involved on Tuesday.

The annual Freshers Fair, being staged in the Radmoor Sports Hall on Tuesday from 10.30am to 13.30pm, represents one of the best opportunities for College students to introduce themselves to Loughborough Students’ Union.

Student development officer Alan Tsang says: “This is always a busy and very interesting day for our new intake of students.  One of the great benefits of being a Loughborough College student is that we are part and parcel of the world-renowned Loughborough Students’ Union.

“Many societies will be introducing themselves and hoping to welcome new members. “

One additional feature of the day will be launching Loughborough College’s charity of the year for 2012-13 which is the Our Space appeal for Leicester Royal Infirmary. There’s a special opportunity to have a photo taken with the Olympic torch for just £1

A full list of societies that have indicated they will be attending includes:  RecRun, ACS (American football), Islamic, Harry Potter, Homebrew Tech, Cartoons and Cereal, Hindu, Compsoc, Labour, Motorcycle,  Gospel Choir, Belly Dance, Chinese, LSU Media, Flying Club, Time4Change, FLIX,  Shakespeare, Yoga, FEVER, LIMFAO,  Scandinavian, Skydiving, hip hop, Gardening Collective, Christian Union, Historical Re-Enactment, Model United Nations,  DJ Society.

LET’S MAKE A MARK FOR CHARITY

    September 25th, 2012

LOUGHBOROUGH COLLEGE is hoping to create a new fund raising standard to mark this week’s official announcement of the College’s Charity of the Year.

Students have been busy considering a range of well-deserving charities and Leicester hospitals’ Our Space Appeal bas come out on top. The charity collected more than 500 votes, with the runner up over 200 behind.

Student development officer Alan Tsang says: “The charity is absolutely delighted with the news and has already offered to donate a number of resources to help us to raise as much money as we possibly can.

“We are hopeful that we can beat the amount raised last year which was £8.074.

Mr Tsang reminds staff and students there are awards for the top individual fundraiser and team on offer.
