COLLEGE TO FOLLOW UP RECORD-BREAKING HEALTH FAIR

    December 12th, 2012

ORGANISER Nicola Wells today revealed Loughborough College will be holding follow-up events in 2013 following yesterday’s record-breaking third annual Health and Wellbeing Fair.

The event held in the Radmoor Sports Hall attracted 282 students and 25 staff – a new high – and feedback from two stalls that attracted a particularly high level of interest has prompted the College to take further action.

“It was great to see so many people attending and the response we have already had from people taking part has been very positive,” she said. “Macmillan Cancer Support alone saw more than 240 people and spoke to more than 30 who raised specific issues.  We are now looking into the possibility of holding cancer awareness teaching for students next year.

“Also, the NHS stop smoking service signed up a good number of students on the day, so we will be holding a drop-in during the new term. Many important health-related issues were publicised and we’d like to thank everyone who gave up their valuable time to come along including the Our Space appeal, which is the College’s chosen charity for 2012-13.

“The timing of the event was changed this year to the heart of the Christmas party season as there was also important guidance on alcohol awareness.

“Nobody wants to take away the enjoyment of this time of year but we want students to do so without neglecting the safety of both themselves and others.”
