SO MUCH TO LEARN AT LOUGHBOROUGH COLLEGE HEALTH FAIR

    December 11th, 2012

LONDON 2012 bronze medallist Nicola White opened today’s third annual Health and Wellbeing Fair at Loughborough College  – then went in search of some tips of her own.

For, although the Loughborough College student has won 89 international hockey caps and was a member of Team GB’s history-making side at the Olympic Games, she admits she is still learning.

“You never know it all,” she said. “Going round the stands at this event, you do find out things. There’s probably at least one valuable extra piece of information I could take away from each one.”

Long queues of people streamed into the Radmoor Sports Hall for an event focusing on health issues, including alcohol awareness and safety.

Among the many stallholders was NHS development worker Meeta Madhani who was promoting an important message about responsible drinking during the festive season.

She said: “Nobody is seeking to take away people’s enjoyment but it is better health-wise to be a social drinker than a dependent one. The problem is we tend to think in terms of pints and measures rather than units. You will feel a lot better if you drink responsibly, thinking ahead about how you are going to get home, rather than going mad.

“Binge drinking can lead to unwise sex, violence and other issues of poor judgement.”
